My proposal for my final paper is going to going to argue about the different ways of reproduction between the Oankali and humans. I will talk about Octavia Butler's sexual orientation and some possible reasons why she decides that the Oankali have three genders instead of one. In the beginning I will talk about Octavia Butler and her sexual orientation and her interest in the form of gender and expanding the mind.
My argument is about the Oankali and their reproduction. I will talk about the Oankali way of reproduction and how they have to "trade" with other species. Also, I'll talk about the ooloi not being any gender and how they are the connector to the mates. In addition, I will talk about how Oankali mates are brother and sister and how it isn't incest. Then, I will talk about the birth of the Oankali child and how the sex of the child is not known until metamorphis.
My counter argument is on the human reproduction and sexual orientation. I will talk about how Oankali mates are different then human because humans are not related. I will talk about incest, the norms about it, and the physical defects of the child. Also, I will talk about how there is only two genders but there are many spaces between genders like gay, bi, and trans.
My research will be on the effects of incest and different sexuality. Also,I will research Octavia Butler and her sexual orientation.
I don't have a solid thesis, but as time goes on I think I will start to develop a strong thesis.

As you obviously recognize, this is a list of ideas or interests - some of which even resembles an outline - which yet doesn't detail anything like an argument yet.
As I've said before, I think the easiest way of approaching this material may be to simply sit down & write and see where it takes you. That being said, I do have a suggestion.
Everything that you've written so far is oriented at explaining (in some cases, even summarizing) how the Oankali work, sometimes in relationship with, sometimes in tension with, how humanity works. Nowhere in here is there a trace of what *you* think, or how *you* respond. Maybe this is because you're not sure, which is fine - but I think the key to finding a thesis is in asking yourself whether you admire to, object to, or have some more complex response to the way that Butler explores all of these issues related to gender, sexuality and reproduction. The thesis isn't just about what she says, but about your *response* to what she says.
You need a thesis. It seems you are focusing on the differences in reproduction between Oankali and humanity and the role of gender in Lilith's Brood. You could make this into an argument by telling what you think Butler is trying to say about the issues you brought up (gender, sexual orientation, etc) and argue for or against her views. I'm unsure about how you can work incest and Butler's sexual orientation into an argument though.
Alright obviously you need a focus. I think you should write about why Butler threw the ooloi and their 3rd gender in the book. Is she trying to make a statement? It could very well have something to do with her sexual orientation, maybe she thinks ill of only having 2 genders. Im not sure but you can definitely use alot of your ideas in this.
